CompositionAdaferin Gel is a topical treatment used to treat mild to moderate acne on the face, chest or back, including blackheads, whiteheads and red pimples. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing adapalene, and belongs to a class of medicines called topical retinoids.
This medicine works by keeping pores clear of oil and dead skin cells and by calming inflammation in the skin, which reduces existing spots and stops new ones forming. Apply a thin layer to the whole affected area on clean, dry skin, avoiding the eyes, lips, nostrils and any broken or sunburnt skin.
Improvement usually takes several weeks, and acne may seem slightly worse at first. Use sunscreen during the day and avoid waxing, strong scrubs and alcohol-based toners on treated skin, as these can increase irritation.
Before using this medicine, tell your doctor if you have eczema or sensitive skin, or use other acne treatments. Do not use it if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy; if you are breastfeeding, ask your doctor first and do not apply it to the chest. Stop and contact your doctor if you get severe redness, swelling or blistering.
