Ornizera Granules 5Gm

Ornizera Granules 5gm is used to manage liver-related brain problems caused by high ammonia levels in the blood.

Uses of this medicine are:

• Hepatic encephalopathy: This medicine helps manage confusion, altered behaviour, tremor and reduced consciousness that occur when the liver cannot clear ammonia properly from the blood.
• Hyperammonaemia: It helps lower elevated blood ammonia levels associated with liver disease and hepatic encephalopathy.
• Supportive care in cirrhosis: This medicine is used alongside other treatments such as lactulose to help manage brain-related complications in people with long-term liver damage (cirrhosis).

Follow these instructions whilst taking Ornizera Granules 5gm:

• Empty the contents of one sachet into a glass of water or another suitable liquid.
• Stir well until the granules dissolve completely.
• Take the dissolved medicine by mouth, usually with or after meals to improve tolerance.
• Do not take more than the recommended amount without consulting your doctor.
• Consult your doctor for specific advice on how long to continue this medicine.

Ornizera Granules 5gm is taken orally.

Ornizera Granules 5gm contains L-ornithine L-aspartate (3000 mg), which works on the body as follows:

• Supports the urea cycle: After the salt dissolves, L-ornithine acts as a substrate for the urea cycle in the liver. This cycle converts ammonia (a toxic waste product of protein breakdown) into urea, which the body then removes through urine.
• Promotes glutamine synthesis: L-ornithine and L-aspartate support pathways that enhance ammonia incorporation into glutamine. Glutamine synthetase, particularly in skeletal muscle and perivenous hepatocytes, helps incorporate ammonia into glutamine, thereby contributing to ammonia removal.
• Reduces blood ammonia: By boosting these two natural ammonia-clearing pathways, this medicine lowers the amount of ammonia circulating in the blood, which helps reduce the confusion and altered mental state seen in hepatic encephalopathy.

• Store the sachets below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat.

• Keep the granules in the original sealed sachet, protected from moisture, until you are ready to use them.

• Store this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.

• Do not use the medicine after the expiry date printed on the pack.

• Maintain adequate protein intake: Do not restrict protein unless specifically advised by your doctor or dietitian. People with cirrhosis generally need adequate protein and energy intake to help prevent malnutrition and muscle loss.

• Avoid alcohol completely: if you have liver disease, avoiding alcohol may be recommended to prevent further liver damage. Follow your doctor's advice regarding alcohol consumption.
