Thalix-50 Capsule is used, under specialist supervision, to treat multiple myeloma (a type of bone-marrow cancer) as part of combination therapy, and to manage a serious inflammatory complication of leprosy (erythema nodosum leprosum).
It contains thalidomide. It works by calming the immune system and reducing the formation of new blood vessels that support tumour growth.
Take it as prescribed, usually at bedtime to reduce daytime drowsiness. It must only be used by the person it is prescribed for, and never shared. Regular blood tests are part of treatment.
This medicine causes serious birth defects and must never be used in pregnancy. Women must use effective contraception and have regular pregnancy tests, and men must use barrier contraception, during and after treatment as directed. It also raises the risk of blood clots and can cause nerve damage, so report leg pain or swelling, breathlessness, or numbness, tingling or pain in the hands or feet.
