Terlieon Injection is used in hospital to control bleeding from swollen veins in the food pipe and to manage certain complications of advanced liver disease.

• Bleeding Oesophageal Varices: Helps control acute bleeding from swollen veins in the food pipe.
• Hepatorenal Syndrome: Helps manage a type of kidney failure linked with advanced liver disease.
• Refractory Ascites: Used in certain cases of fluid build-up in the abdomen.

Terlieon Injection is administered intravenously.

Terlieon Injection contains Terlipressin (1 mg), which works in the body as follows:

• Vasoconstriction: Terlipressin acts on vasopressin V1 receptors located on vascular smooth muscle cells. This action leads to the constriction of blood vessels, which is why it is referred to as a vasoconstrictor.

• Reducing Portal Venous Pressure: In the context of acute oesophageal variceal bleeding, it decreases blood flow in the portal venous system by constricting the splanchnic arteries. This reduction in portal pressure assists in controlling bleeding from ruptured varices.

• Improving Renal Function: Its vasoconstrictive effects can redistribute blood flow to the kidneys, improving renal function in hepatorenal syndrome.

• Alleviating Ascites: It may help manage ascites by reducing splanchnic vasodilation and increasing effective arterial blood volume.

• Store Terlieon Injection at a temperature between to 2 to 8°C.

• Keep this medicine away from direct light.

• Avoid exposing it to heat or moisture.

• Do not freeze the medication.

• Make sure it is kept out of reach and sight of children.

• Always check the expiry date before use and do not use Terlieon Injection if it has expired.

• If you are managing liver cirrhosis or portal hypertension with Terlieon Injection, try to limit your salt intake. This can help reduce fluid build-up in your body, a common issue with these conditions.

• Additionally, consider reducing your alcohol consumption. Alcohol can worsen liver damage and increase the risk of complications related to liver cirrhosis and portal hypertension.
