Terlieon Injection 10 ML

Terlieon Injection is used for:

• Taking care of acute bleeding from esophageal varices in patients with liver cirrhosis or portal hypertension

• Managing hepatorenal syndrome type 1, a form of kidney failure in advanced liver disease

• Assisting in the management of refractory ascites, the accumulation of fluid in the abdominal cavity that does not respond to standard diuretic therapy

Administer Terlieon Injection as follows:

• A healthcare professional should administer the injection.

• The medicine must be administered as a slow intravenous bolus injection.

Terlieon Injection is administered intravenously.

Terlieon Injection contains Terlipressin (1 mg), which works in the body as follows:

• Vasoconstriction: Terlipressin acts on vasopressin V1 receptors located on vascular smooth muscle cells. This action leads to the constriction of blood vessels, which is why it is referred to as a vasoconstrictor.

• Reducing Portal Venous Pressure: In the context of acute oesophageal variceal bleeding, it decreases blood flow in the portal venous system by constricting the splanchnic arteries. This reduction in portal pressure assists in controlling bleeding from ruptured varices.

• Improving Renal Function: Its vasoconstrictive effects can redistribute blood flow to the kidneys, improving renal function in hepatorenal syndrome.

• Alleviating Ascites: It may help manage ascites by reducing splanchnic vasodilation and increasing effective arterial blood volume.

• Store Terlieon Injection at a temperature between to 2 to 8°C.

• Keep this medicine away from direct light.

• Avoid exposing it to heat or moisture.

• Do not freeze the medication.

• Make sure it is kept out of reach and sight of children.

• Always check the expiry date before use and do not use Terlieon Injection if it has expired.

• If you are managing liver cirrhosis or portal hypertension with Terlieon Injection, try to limit your salt intake. This can help reduce fluid build-up in your body, a common issue with these conditions.

• Additionally, consider reducing your alcohol consumption. Alcohol can worsen liver damage and increase the risk of complications related to liver cirrhosis and portal hypertension.
