CompositionTamoxilon 20 Tablet 10 is used to treat breast cancer in both pre- and post-menopausal women, and in men. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing tamoxifen, and belongs to a class of medicines called selective oestrogen receptor modulators (SERMs).
This medicine works by competitively binding to oestrogen receptors in breast tissue, preventing natural oestrogen from attaching to these receptors and stimulating the growth of hormone-sensitive breast cancer cells. It is also used to help reduce the risk of breast cancer developing in women identified as high-risk. Take this medicine as directed by your doctor, who will determine the appropriate dosage and duration; treatment may continue for several years.
Tell your doctor about any pre-existing health conditions or medicines you are taking, before starting this medicine. It can increase the chance of developing a blood clot or stroke; report any unusual bleeding, blurred vision or leg swelling to your doctor immediately. Report any hot flushes, headache or fluid retention to your doctor. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
