Rifill Alpha Tablet is used alongside a low-protein diet in people with chronic kidney disease to help reduce the build-up of waste products and maintain good nutrition. It is a combination nutritional medicine containing ketoanalogues and amino acids (building blocks of protein), and belongs to a group of medicines called renal nutritional supplements.

This medicine provides the body with protein building blocks without adding the nitrogen that damaged kidneys struggle to remove, which helps lower blood urea levels. It may help delay the need for dialysis in some people when combined with a supervised low-protein diet. Take it with meals, in the dose prescribed by your doctor; it must be used together with the diet plan advised by your doctor or dietitian.

Follow the low-protein diet recommended by your dietitian, make sure you get enough calories, keep to any fluid limits your doctor sets, and avoid adding extra salt to food.

Before starting this medicine, tell your doctor if you have high calcium levels, a disorder of amino acid metabolism such as phenylketonuria, or heart disease, and about other medicines you take, especially calcium, vitamin D or phosphate binders. Your doctor will check your blood calcium and phosphate levels regularly. Contact your doctor if you notice nausea, excessive thirst, passing a lot of urine, confusion or weakness, as these can be signs of high calcium. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
