Pegihep 50 Mcg Injection 1 is used for the following:

• Treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus infections

• Management of compensated liver disease with hepatitis C virus

• Combination therapy with ribavirin for hepatitis C

• Monotherapy for chronic hepatitis C

• Adjuvant treatment for melanoma after surgery

• Boosting the body's natural antiviral defences

Follow these instructions when administering Pegihep 50 Mcg Injection 1:

• Pegihep 50 Mcg Injection 1 should only be administered under the supervision of a qualified doctor.

• Allow the injection to reach room temperature before administration.

• Do not shake the vial before use.

• Administer the injection subcutaneously (under the skin).

• Use a new, sterile needle and syringe for each injection.

• Dispose of used needles and syringes properly in a sharps container.

Pegihep 50 Mcg Injection 1 is administered subcutaneously.

Pegihep 50 Mcg Injection 1 contains pegylated interferon alpha-2b (0.05 mg), which works on the body as follows:

• Viral Replication Suppression: Pegylated interferon alpha-2b binds to specific receptors on cell surfaces, triggering a series of cellular events that help prevent the hepatitis C virus from multiplying in your body.

• Immune System Enhancement: It activates various genes involved in your body's natural antiviral responses, strengthening your immune system's ability to fight the hepatitis C infection.

• Extended Duration of Action: The pegylation (attachment of polyethylene glycol) of interferon alpha-2b increases its size and stability, allowing it to remain in your body longer than standard interferon, which means you need fewer injections.

• Reduced Viral Load: Through its combined mechanisms, pegylated interferon alpha-2b works to decrease the amount of hepatitis C virus in your bloodstream, which is measured as your viral load.
