Composition

Methoxsalen (10 Mg)

MYSALEN TABLET 10 is used in photochemotherapy (PUVA therapy) for the management of vitiligo and severe psoriasis that has not responded to other treatments, and for certain other pigmentation disorders, in adults. It is used under specialist supervision alongside controlled UVA light exposure.

It contains methoxsalen, a photosensitising agent. Take it as prescribed, usually with food or milk, at the specified time before UVA exposure.

UV-protective eyewear must be worn during and for a period after each session. Strict sun avoidance and protective clothing are essential on treatment days and the day after.

Tell your doctor about any eye disease, liver problems or history of skin cancer before starting. Never expose treated skin to uncontrolled sunlight on treatment days. Report severe blistering, persistent redness or eye irritation.

MYSALEN TABLET 10 is used as part of PUVA phototherapy for vitiligo and severe psoriasis in adults, under specialist supervision.

Uses of MYSALEN TABLET 10 are:

Vitiligo: Used in PUVA therapy to help restore skin pigmentation.
Severe Psoriasis: Used in PUVA therapy for severe psoriasis that has not responded to other treatments.

Follow these instructions while taking MYSALEN TABLET 10:

Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
Take this medicine 1.5 to 2 hours before scheduled UV light exposure.
Do not crush, chew, or break the tablet.
Consult your doctor if you miss a scheduled dose.

MYSALEN TABLET 10 is taken orally.

MYSALEN TABLET 10 may cause some side effects that are usually mild and go away as your body adjusts to the medicine.

A few common side effects of MYSALEN TABLET 10:

Skin: Skin redness and itching. A cool compress on the area can help soothe itching.
Digestive: Feeling sick (nausea). Taking small sips of water and eating plain, simple food can help ease nausea.

Photosensitisation: Methoxsalen makes your skin more sensitive to ultraviolet A (UVA) light, which is necessary for the medicine to be effective.
DNA interaction: When activated by UVA light, methoxsalen binds to the DNA in your skin cells, forming cross-links between DNA strands.
Melanocyte stimulation: This process triggers the activity of melanocytes (pigment-producing cells), encouraging them to multiply and migrate to affected areas.
Repigmentation: By stimulating melanocytes, the medicine helps restore normal skin colour to areas affected by vitiligo.
Cell growth regulation: In psoriasis, this medicine helps slow down the rapid skin cell turnover and reduce inflammation, a characteristic symptom of this condition.

Pregnancy

MYSALEN TABLET 10 is contraindicated during pregnancy. If you are pregnant or planning to conceive, make sure to discuss this with your doctor before starting this medicine. This medicine may cause harmful effects on the developing baby.

Breastfeeding
