Myostigmin Injection 5ml

Myostigmin Injection is used for the following:

• Managing myasthenia gravis: a chronic autoimmune disorder that causes muscle weakness and fatigue.

• Addressing paralytic ileus: a temporary halt of normal bowel muscle contractions.

• Alleviating post-operative urinary retention: the inability to void urine after surgery.

• Reversing non-depolarizing neuromuscular blockade: used to counteract the effects of certain muscle relaxants administered during surgery.

Administer Myostigmin Injection as follows:

• The injection is administered under the skin (subcutaneous), into a muscle (intramuscular), or into a vein (intravenous) as per your doctor's instructions.

• Ensure to administer slowly, over at least 1 minute, to avoid abrupt changes in heart rate and blood pressure.

• Monitor your body's response closely during and after administration.

Myostigmin Injection is administered intravenously, subcutaneously or via an intramuscular route.

Myostigmin Injection contains the active ingredient neostigmine (2.5 mg). Here's how it works:

• Inhibits Acetylcholinesterase: Neostigmine works by blocking the action of a body enzyme called acetylcholinesterase. This enzyme is responsible for breaking down another chemical called acetylcholine.

• Increases Acetylcholine Concentration: Neostigmine helps increase the concentration of acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction, where nerve cells connect with muscles, by preventing its breakdown.

• Enhances Nerve Impulses: With more acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction, the transmission of nerve impulses to muscles is enhanced. This helps improve muscle function and strength in conditions like myasthenia gravis and restores normal bowel and bladder function in cases of paralytic ileus and post-operative urinary retention.

• Store Myostigmin Injection in a cool, dry place at room temperature, ideally below 25°C.

• Keep the medicine away from direct sunlight, and do not freeze it.

• Ensure the injection is out of reach of children.

• Before administering, visually inspect for any particulate matter or discolouration in the injection.

• Always use the medicine before its expiry date.

• If you have myasthenia gravis, regular light physical activity can help manage muscle weakness. However, avoid fatigue-inducing exercises.
