Lacosam Syrup 200ml

Lacosam Syrup is used for the following:

• Treatment of partial-onset seizures

• Management of epilepsy in adults

• Adjunctive therapy for primary generalised tonic-clonic seizures

• Control of abnormal electrical activity in the brain

• Monotherapy for seizure disorders

• Combination therapy with other antiepileptic medicines

• Stabilisation of nerve cell activity

• Reduction of seizure frequency

• Management of seizures originating in one brain hemisphere

Follow these instructions while taking Lacosam Syrup:

• Shake the bottle well before measuring your dose.

• Use the measuring cup or spoon provided to ensure accurate dosing.

• This medicine is sugar-based and needs caution for use in diabetic patients. If you have diabetes, consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

• Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without consulting your doctor.

Lacosam Syrup is taken orally.

Lacosam Syrup contains lacosamide (15 mg), which works on the body as follows:

• Selective enhancement of sodium channels: Lacosamide selectively enhances the slow inactivation of voltage-gated sodium channels in nerve cells, helping to stabilise these channels in their inactive state.

• Reduction of abnormal electrical activity: By stabilising sodium channels, lacosamide reduces the excessive electrical impulses in the brain that lead to seizures.

• Normalisation of brain function: This medicine helps control seizures without significantly affecting normal brain function, allowing for better seizure management.

• Regulation of nerve impulse transmission: Lacosamide affects the way electrical signals travel along nerve pathways, thereby preventing the spread of abnormal electrical activity that triggers seizures.

• Store Lacosam Syrup at room temperature, below 30°C.

• Keep the bottle tightly closed in its original container.

• Protect from direct light.

• Keep out of reach of children.

• Use within six months after opening the bottle.

• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the package.

• Maintain a consistent daily routine, including regular meals and sleep times, as irregular patterns may trigger seizures in some people with epilepsy.

• Consider keeping a seizure diary to track potential triggers such as missed meals, stress, or certain foods, which can help you and your doctor better manage your condition.
