CompositionIrn Injection is used to treat iron-deficiency anaemia in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). It is a single-ingredient medicine containing iron sucrose. It belongs to the class of parenteral iron replacement therapies.
Iron-deficiency anaemia occurs when the body does not have enough iron to produce adequate haemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen. People with chronic kidney disease are particularly susceptible to iron deficiency and anaemia, which may cause tiredness, weakness, shortness of breath and reduced exercise tolerance.
Follow a balanced diet containing iron-rich foods and maintain adequate nutrition alongside treatment. Attend all scheduled blood tests so your doctor can monitor haemoglobin levels, iron stores and response to treatment.
Before starting, tell your doctor about your medical conditions and allergies, particularly any previous reaction to intravenous iron preparations. Tell the doctor about all other medicines, supplements or herbal products you take. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding. Report persistent or serious side effects to your doctor. Do not stop treatment unless your doctor advises you to do so.
