Contraindications

• Iron Sucrose is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to any of its components. It is also contraindicated in conditions where there is an excess of iron in the body and in cases of anaemia not related to iron deficiency.

Other Medications to Avoid

• This medicine may interact with oral iron preparations (such as ferrous sulphate and ferrous fumarate), which may reduce their absorption.

Overdose and Missed Dose

• Excessive dosages of Iron Sucrose can lead to iron overload, potentially resulting in a condition called haemosiderosis. If suspected, immediate medical attention is necessary.
• If a dose of Iron Sucrose is missed, it should be administered as soon as possible. However, if it is close to the time for the next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and resume the regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose.

Management of Side Effects

Most side effects are temporary and generally harmless and resolve when discontinuing this medicine. However, if you experience any severe side effects or worsening of any of the symptoms, please consult your doctor.

• To manage nausea or diarrhoea, try taking small, frequent meals and avoid spicy or fatty foods.

• Use Iron Sucrose with caution in patients with liver dysfunction due to the potential risks associated with iron metabolism. Patients with bacterial infections should also use Iron Sucrose cautiously as iron can potentially increase bacterial growth.
