Composition

Aprepitant (80 Mg)

Emend Capsule 3 is used to prevent the nausea and vomiting that can come with chemotherapy. It is used for treatments that are likely to cause moderate to severe sickness, and it can also help prevent nausea and vomiting after surgery.

It belongs to a group of medicines called antiemetics, which help prevent sickness. Take it exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually as a short course around the time of chemotherapy.

Simple measures support treatment. Eat small, light meals, sip fluids regularly, and avoid strong smells or greasy foods that can trigger nausea.

Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor about any liver problems and about all other medicines you take, as it can interact with several of them. Complete the full course as advised, even if you feel better early.

Emend Capsule 3 is used to prevent nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy or occurring after surgery.

Uses of Emend Capsule 3 are:

Chemotherapy-related Sickness: Helps prevent nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy.
Post-Surgery Sickness: Helps prevent nausea and vomiting that can occur after an operation.

Follow these instructions while taking Emend Capsule 3:

Take the capsule exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
Swallow the capsule whole with water.
It may be taken with or without food.
Take it at the same time each day as advised by your doctor.
Follow the duration of treatment exactly as prescribed.
Do not stop the medicine suddenly or take extra doses without medical advice.

Emend Capsule 3 is taken orally.

Emend Capsule 3 may cause some side effects that are usually mild and go away as your body adjusts to the medicine.

A few common side effects of Emend Capsule 3:

General: Tiredness.
Digestive: Loss of appetite, constipation, and loose motions (diarrhoea).
Neurological: Headache and dizziness in some people.

Management Of Side Effects:

Aprepitant (80 mg): This medicine works by blocking neurokinin-1 (NK1) receptors in the brain, which play a role in triggering nausea and vomiting. By preventing these signals, it helps reduce the frequency and severity of nausea and vomiting.

Pregnancy

Emend Capsule 3 is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless absolutely necessary. Discuss all the risks and benefits with your doctor before taking this medicine.

Breastfeeding

Consult your doctor before taking Emend Capsule 3 while breastfeeding. Limited data is available on whether this medicine passes into breast milk.

Alcohol

Antitubercular medicines (rifampicin): Strongly reduce the effectiveness of Emend Capsule 3 by increasing its breakdown in the body. This combination should generally be avoided. Consult your doctor if both medicines are prescribed.
Other medicines affected by liver enzymes (CYP3A4): Emend Capsule 3 can increase or decrease the levels of certain medicines such as dexamethasone, warfarin, and midazolam. Your doctor may adjust doses or monitor therapy closely.
Hormonal contraceptives (birth control pills, patches, implants, injections): This medicine can reduce the effectiveness of hormonal birth control methods. Your doctor may advise using additional non-hormonal contraception during treatment and for the recommended duration after stopping the medicine.

Drug-Disease Interactions

Emend Capsule 3 may require caution in certain medical conditions:

Liver disease: This medicine is metabolised in the liver. In people with moderate to severe liver impairment, the medicine may stay longer in the body, which can increase the risk of side effects. Your doctor may monitor liver function and adjust the dose if needed.
Severe hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh Class C): In people with severe liver impairment (Child-Pugh Class C), the medicine may remain in the body longer than expected, leading to higher drug levels and an increased risk of side effects. Because safety data in this group is limited, this medicine should be used with caution or avoided unless clearly advised by a doctor. If prescribed, close medical supervision and monitoring for side effects may be required.

Daily Dose

Over Dose
