Cix 500 Mg Tablet 20 is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections of the respiratory tract, urinary tract, skin, bones, joints and gut. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing ciprofloxacin, and belongs to a class of medicines called fluoroquinolone antibiotics.
This medicine works by blocking the bacterial enzymes DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which bacteria need to copy and repair their DNA, so they cannot multiply and are killed. Take it exactly as your doctor directs and complete the full course, even if you feel better after a few days.
Drinking plenty of fluids during treatment is advisable. Leave a gap of at least 2 hours between this medicine and antacids or dairy products, and avoid strong sunlight or sunbeds, as your skin may burn more easily.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have tendon problems, kidney disease, epilepsy, myasthenia gravis or a history of tendon pain with antibiotics. Stop and seek medical help straight away if you develop tendon pain or swelling. This medicine treats only bacterial infections, and misuse can lead to antibiotic resistance.
