Celestone 0.5 Tablet is used to reduce inflammation and to control a wide range of conditions in which the immune system is overactive. These include rheumatoid arthritis, severe allergic reactions, asthma, certain skin conditions such as dermatitis and psoriasis, autoimmune disorders such as lupus, inflammatory bowel disease, and some blood disorders.
It contains betamethasone and belongs to a group of medicines called corticosteroids. Take it exactly as prescribed, ideally with food to protect the stomach. Do not stop this medicine suddenly, as the dose usually needs to be reduced gradually under your doctor's guidance to avoid withdrawal effects.
With longer courses, a diet rich in calcium and vitamin D helps support bone health, and limiting added salt can help reduce fluid retention. Practising good hygiene and avoiding contact with people who have infections is sensible, as this medicine can lower your resistance to infection.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have diabetes, high blood pressure, an infection, stomach ulcers, or bone thinning, or are taking other medicines. Report signs of infection, mood changes, or worsening blood sugar. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before use.
