CompositionCefodox Tablet is used to treat bacterial infections of the chest, throat, sinuses, urinary tract and skin. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing cefpodoxime proxetil, which belongs to a class of antibiotics called third-generation cephalosporins.
This medicine is commonly prescribed for infections such as pneumonia, bronchitis, tonsillitis, sinusitis and uncomplicated urinary tract infections. It works only against bacteria and will not treat viral infections such as the common cold or flu. Take it with food, in the dose and for the full course prescribed by your doctor, even if you feel better early, to help stop the infection returning.
Getting plenty of rest and drinking enough fluids can support your recovery. Taking antibiotics only when prescribed, and never sharing them, helps reduce the risk of antibiotic resistance.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you are allergic to penicillin, cephalosporins or any other antibiotic, or if you have kidney disease or a history of colitis. Tell your doctor about all other medicines you take, and if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Contact your doctor if you develop severe or watery diarrhoea, a skin rash or swelling. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
