CompositionCartigen DN Tablet 10 is used to relieve pain and stiffness in osteoarthritis, a condition caused by wear and tear of the joints. It is a combination medicine containing diacerein, glucosamine and methylsulfonylmethane (MSM), and belongs to a group of medicines called slow-acting symptomatic treatments for osteoarthritis.
This medicine is mainly used for osteoarthritis of the knee and hip. It works slowly, and improvement in pain and stiffness usually takes several weeks. Take it with food, in the dose and for the duration prescribed by your doctor.
Keeping a healthy weight, doing low-impact exercise such as walking, cycling or swimming, strengthening the muscles around the joint, and avoiding activities that strain the joints can improve mobility.
Diacerein commonly causes diarrhoea, which can occasionally be severe, and can rarely affect the liver, so it is not usually recommended for people aged 65 or over. Before starting, tell your doctor if you have liver disease, bowel problems, diabetes, a shellfish allergy, or are taking water tablets or laxatives, and about other medicines you take. Do not take it if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Stop taking it and contact your doctor if you have severe or ongoing diarrhoea, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or dark urine. Do not stop taking this medicine for any other reason unless your doctor advises you to do so.
