Zolasta 4 Injection is used to treat and prevent bone thinning (osteoporosis), including that caused by the menopause or long-term steroid use, helping to reduce the risk of fractures. It is also used to lower high calcium levels in the blood in people with cancer.
It contains zoledronic acid, which belongs to a group of medicines called bisphosphonates. It is given as a slow drip into a vein (infusion) by a doctor or nurse; some people need a single dose while others need it repeated. Do not try to use it yourself.
Drinking plenty of water before the infusion as advised, and taking any calcium and vitamin D supplements your doctor recommends, support treatment alongside this medicine. Good dental care is also important.
Tell your doctor about any kidney problems, low calcium or dental problems before treatment, and about other medicines you take. The full effect can take several days. Report jaw pain, unusual thigh or groin pain, or numbness and tingling.
