Whitfield's Ointment is used for selected superficial fungal skin infections such as ringworm and athlete's foot. It is not a treatment for eczema or psoriasis and may irritate inflamed or broken skin.
It contains benzoic acid and salicylic acid. Benzoic acid has antifungal activity and salicylic acid helps remove thickened surface skin. Apply a thin layer to clean, dry skin as prescribed.
Keep the affected area clean and dry, wear breathable clothing and avoid sharing towels or personal items. These measures can help limit fungal spread.
Before using this ointment, tell your doctor if the skin is broken, very inflamed or sensitive. Avoid the eyes, mouth and mucous membranes, and stop if marked irritation develops.
