Whitfields 3% Ointment 20Gm

Whitfield's Ointment is used for selected superficial fungal infections; it should not be used to treat eczema or psoriasis.

Uses of Whitfield's Ointment are:

• Fungal Skin Infections: Helps treat superficial fungal conditions such as ringworm and athlete's foot.
• Scaling Reduction: Salicylic acid helps remove thickened, scaly surface skin over the affected area.
• Local Antifungal Action: Benzoic acid helps inhibit fungal growth on the skin.

• Clean the affected area and dry it thoroughly. 
• Apply a thin layer of the product over the affected area.
• Do not wrap or bandage the treated area unless your doctor directs.
• Place the cap tightly after use.
• Wash your hands thoroughly after applying the lotion.
• Avoid getting the ointment in your mouth or eyes.
• If your symptoms do not improve after 7 days or worsen, consult your doctor.

Whitfield's Ointment is applied topically.

Whitfield's Ointment contains the following components:

• Benzoic acid (6 % w/w): It helps prevent infection by bacteria. It does so by creating an environment that is unfriendly to bacterial growth. This property of benzoic acid is particularly beneficial in cases where bacterial infections complicate skin conditions. Inhibiting bacterial proliferation supports the overall healing process and reduces the risk of secondary infections.
• Salicylic acid (3 % w/w): Salicylic acid is a keratolytic agent. It promotes the shedding of rough or dead skin cells from the outermost layer of the skin. This exfoliating action helps to unclog pores, remove debris, and soften the skin. In conditions where skin buildup or scaling is problematic, such as fungal infections or eczema, salicylic acid's keratolytic action assists in restoring a healthier skin texture and reducing inflammation.

• Store the ointment at room temperature (15-25ºC).
• Protect it from light and moisture.
• Keep it out of reach of children.
• Do not use the ointment after the expiry date has passed.

• Stay well-hydrated by drinking an adequate amount of water daily. Hydrated skin is generally healthier and less prone to dryness or irritation.
• While using Whitfield's Ointment, avoid using other harsh skincare products or treatments that may further irritate the skin. Stick to a mild, hypoallergenic moisturiser if needed.
• If the treated area is exposed to the sun, consider using sunscreen or protective clothing to prevent sunburn, as the skin may be more sensitive during treatment.
• Choose loose-fitting, breathable clothing made of natural fibres like cotton to reduce friction and allow the skin to breathe.
• Be aware of any potential environmental allergens or irritants, such as certain fabrics, laundry detergents, or scented products, and minimise exposure to them.
• Maintaining a balanced diet, regular exercise, and managing stress can contribute to overall skin health.
