Sopressin 20 IU Injectiion 1 ML is used for the following:

Follow these instructions when Sopressin 20 IU Injectiion 1 ML is administered:

• This medication must only be administered by trained healthcare professionals in a hospital setting.

• The injection is administered intravenously, either as a direct injection or continuous infusion.

• Proper monitoring of blood pressure and heart rate is essential during administration.

• The injection site should be kept clean and sterile.

• Watch for any signs of skin discolouration at the injection site.

• Rise slowly from sitting or lying positions after receiving this medicine.

Sopressin 20 IU Injectiion 1 ML contains vasopressin (20 IU), which works on the body as follows:

• V1a receptor binding: Vasopressin binds to V1a receptors located in vascular smooth muscle, causing powerful vasoconstriction (narrowing of blood vessels), which increases blood pressure.

• V2 receptor activation: When binding to V2 receptors in the kidney's collecting ducts, vasopressin increases water reabsorption, reducing urine output and correcting excessive water loss.

• V1b receptor stimulation: Activation of V1b receptors in the pituitary gland stimulates the release of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), contributing to the body's stress response.

• Haemostatic effect: By causing vasoconstriction in the splanchnic circulation (blood vessels supplying digestive organs), vasopressin reduces blood flow to bleeding sites, particularly helpful in controlling bleeding from oesophageal varices.

• Store Sopressin 20 IU Injectiion 1 ML below 25°C in a cool, dry place.

• Keep the vials protected from direct light exposure.

• Never freeze the medicine as this can damage its structure.

• Store all vials securely out of the reach of children.

• Check the expiry date and do not use it after this date.

• If you have diabetes insipidus (a condition where your body cannot regulate water properly), maintain consistent fluid intake throughout the day rather than drinking large amounts at once.

• Limit sodium (salt) and protein intake it can increase urine production and worsen polyuria, especially in those treated for diabetes insipidus or at risk of fluid imbalance.
