• Cefixime (100 mg): Cefixime is an antibiotic classified as a third-generation cephalosporin, similar to ceftriaxone and cefotaxime. It demonstrates strong stability against beta-lactamase enzymes, which allows it to be effective against many organisms that are resistant to penicillins and certain cephalosporins due to these enzymes. The antibacterial action of cefixime is primarily due to its ability to inhibit mucopeptide synthesis in the bacterial cell wall. Like all beta-lactam antibiotics, cefixime binds to specific penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) in the bacterial cell wall. This binding interferes with the third and final phase of cell wall synthesis, ultimately leading to cell lysis mediated by bacterial autolytic enzymes, including autolysins. It is also possible that cefixime disrupts an inhibitor of these autolysins during this process.
