Septran Paediatric Tablet 10

Septran Tablet is prescribed for children for:

• Managing severe lung infections like Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia

• Preventing and managing toxoplasmosis, an infectious disease

• Handling urinary tract infections (UTIs)

• Managing respiratory tract infections (RTIs)

• Addressing ear infections such as otitis media

• Controlling nocardiosis, a rare bacterial infection

• Give the tablet whole, with a glass of water, to help your child swallow it easily.

• If your child has difficulty swallowing, you can crush the tablet and mix it with a bit of water.

• Do not exceed the dose recommended by your doctor.

• Even if symptoms improve, continue giving the medication until the prescribed course is finished.

• Always consult your doctor before making any changes to your child's medication schedule.

Septran Tablet is given orally.

Septran Tablet contains two active ingredients:

• Trimethoprim (20 mg): This component targets a key step in the bacterial folate synthesis pathway. It inhibits an enzyme known as dihydrofolate reductase. This enzyme converts dihydrofolic acid into tetrahydrofolic acid, which is the active form of folate. This action further depletes the bacteria of folate.

• Sulphamethoxazole (100 mg): This ingredient works by blocking an enzyme called dihydropteroate synthase in bacteria. This enzyme is required by the bacteria to incorporate para-aminobenzoic acid into dihydrofolic acid. By inhibiting this process, sulphamethoxazole prevents the bacteria from producing folate.

• Keep Septran Tablet out of the reach of children.

• Store the medicine at room temperature out of direct sunlight, excessive heat, and moisture.

• Keep the medicine in its original packaging until it's time to give it to your child.

• Make sure you use it before the expiration date mentioned on the packaging.

• Encourage your child to drink plenty of fluids. This can help prevent urinary tract infections, one of the conditions Septran Tablet helps manage.

• To reduce the risk of lung infections, keep your child away from smoke. Cigarette smoke can increase the risk of respiratory tract infections.
