It can affect various aspects of life, including mood, sleep, appetite, energy levels, and concentration. Prothidep 25 tablet is primarily prescribed to treat depression, including major depressive disorder. It helps alleviate symptoms such as persistent sadness, loss of interest, changes in appetite, and sleep disturbances.
• Psychotic depression: Psychotic depression is a subtype of major depressive disorder that involves psychotic symptoms, such as hallucinations or delusions, alongside depressive symptoms. Individuals with psychotic depression may experience distorted thinking, false beliefs, and perceptual disturbances. Treatment typically involves a combination of antidepressant medication and antipsychotic medication. Prothidep 25 Tablet, is used as part of the treatment for psychotic depression.
• Neurotic depression: It is a type of depression characterised by anxiety, excessive worry, and thoughts related to physical symptoms like fatigue, sleep changes and pain; additionally, it also leads to personality disorders like social phobia, and antisocial personality disorder. Prothidep 25 Tablet, is used as part of the treatment for neurotic depression to alleviate these symptoms.
• Anxiety: Anxiety is a common mental health condition characterised by excessive and persistent worry or fear. Anxiety symptoms may include restlessness, irritability, difficulty concentrating, sleep disturbances, and physical symptoms like a rapid heartbeat or shortness of breath. Prothidep 25 Tablet, an antidepressant medication, can help alleviate anxiety symptoms by regulating neurotransmitters in the brain.

• Swallow the Prothidep 25 tablet whole with a glass of water.
• Do not crush or chew the tablet, as this may affect the way the medication is absorbed in the body.
• Take the tablet at fixed times each day to maintain a consistent level of medication. 
• Do not alter the dosage or increase the frequency of taking Prothidep 25 tablets beyond the prescribed instructions.

Prothidep 25 Tablets should be administered orally.

• Dothiepin hydrochloride, the active ingredient in Prothidep 25 Tablet, is a tricyclic antidepressant (TCA). It exerts its therapeutic effects by affecting the balance of certain chemicals in the brain, specifically serotonin and norepinephrine.
• It works by inhibiting the brain's reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine. It prevents these neurotransmitters from being rapidly taken back up by the nerve cells that release them, thereby increasing their availability in the synaptic gap between nerve cells.
• Nor-dothiepin and the combined sulphoxides contribute to the overall antidepressant effect in a similar way to Dothiepin itself.
• By increasing the levels of serotonin and norepinephrine, dothiepin hydrochloride helps to regulate mood and alleviate symptoms of depression and anxiety. These neurotransmitters transmit signals related to mood, emotions, and overall well-being.

• Store this medicine at a temperature below 30 ºC.
• Protect it from light and moisture.
• Keep Prothidep 25 tablets away from children.
• Do not use this medicine after the expiry date has passed.

• Follow a well-balanced diet that includes a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats. It provides essential nutrients and supports overall brain health.
• Incorporate foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as fatty fish (salmon, mackerel, sardines), flaxseeds, chia seeds, and walnuts. Omega-3 fatty acids have been linked with improved mood and may positively impact mental health.
• Minimise the consumption of processed foods, sugary snacks, and beverages, as they can negatively affect mood and energy levels.
• Limit or avoid caffeine and alcohol, as they can disrupt sleep, increase anxiety, and affect mood stability.
• Stay adequately hydrated by drinking enough water throughout the day. Dehydration can impact mood and cognitive function.

• Inform your doctor if you have a family history of suicide or manic depression.
• Do not pass this medication on to others with similar symptoms. It may harm them.
• Inform your doctor if you recently had a heart attack, for example, within the past two months.
• Avoid alcohol strictly while taking this medication.
• Do not stop taking Prothidep 25 tablets just because you feel better. If your doctor advises you to discontinue these tablets, they will typically recommend a gradual tapering off of the medication. If you stop taking the tablets too soon, your condition may worsen.
