Macbery LS Expectorant is used to treat productive cough and respiratory conditions associated with thick mucus in children, such as bronchitis, bronchial asthma, and emphysema. It is a combination medicine containing Ambroxol, Levosalbutamol (also known as Levalbuterol), and Guaifenesin. Levosalbutamol is a bronchodilator that relaxes the muscles in the airways to improve airflow, while Ambroxol is a mucolytic agent that thins and loosens phlegm. Guaifenesin acts as an expectorant to decrease the stickiness of the mucus, making it significantly easier to cough out and relieving chest congestion and breathing difficulties.
For effective relief, this medication should be used strictly in the dose and duration prescribed by the doctor, based on the child's age and weight. It can be taken with or without food, but consistent timing is recommended for best results. It is beneficial to ensure the child drinks plenty of lukewarm water during treatment to help further thin the mucus. Inform your doctor if the child has a history of heart disease, overactive thyroid, or high blood pressure, and monitor blood glucose regularly if the child is diabetic, as the medication may affect sugar levels. Stop use and consult a healthcare professional if the cough persists for more than a week or is accompanied by a high fever or rash.
