Istaphase MG 1 Tablet, a combination medicine, works in distinct ways to lower blood sugar levels:

• Metformin Hydrochloride (500 mg): This biguanide suppresses glucose production by the liver, especially at night. It increases insulin sensitivity, enhancing glucose uptake and utilisation by body tissues. Metformin also delays glucose absorption from the intestines after meals.

• Glimepiride (1 mg): This sulfonylurea binds to receptors on pancreatic beta cells, causing them to release more insulin. The increased insulin helps move glucose from the blood into cells to be used for energy. Furthermore, glimepiride also decreases glucose production by the liver.
