Furazolidone (100 Mg) + Metronidazole (400 Mg)

FURAZOLE M Tablet 10 is used to treat bacterial and protozoal infections affecting the stomach and intestines. It is a combination medicine that belongs to the class of antibacterial and antiprotozoal medicines.

This medicine may also be prescribed to help manage infectious diarrhoea, amoebic intestinal infections, giardiasis, and mixed gastrointestinal infections caused by susceptible microorganisms. It helps reduce symptoms such as loose stools, abdominal discomfort, stomach cramps, bloating, and intestinal infection-related irritation.

Inform your doctor before starting this medicine if you have liver disease, kidney disease, nerve disorders, blood-related disorders, or are taking other medicines. Take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor and continue taking it for the advised duration, even if symptoms improve early, to help reduce the risk of recurrence or incomplete infection control.

FURAZOLE M Tablet 10 is used to:

Treat bacterial intestinal infections caused by susceptible organisms
Treat protozoal infections such as amoebiasis and giardiasis
Help control infectious diarrhoea associated with susceptible organisms
Reduce abdominal discomfort and intestinal infection-related symptoms
Help treat mixed gastrointestinal infections caused by susceptible bacteria and protozoa

Follow these instructions while taking FURAZOLE M Tablet 10:

Take the tablet exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
Swallow the tablet whole with water.
Do not crush or chew the tablet unless advised otherwise.
Take this medicine after food to help reduce stomach discomfort.
Complete the full duration of treatment advised by your doctor.

Metallic taste

Management Of Side Effects:

Nausea or stomach discomfort: Taking FURAZOLE M Tablet 10 after meals may help reduce stomach irritation and nausea.
Metallic taste: Chewing sugar-free gum, sucking sugar-free mint, or maintaining proper oral hygiene may help reduce unpleasant taste sensations during treatment.

FURAZOLE M Tablet 10 contains the following ingredients:

Furazolidone (100 mg): Furazolidone is an antibacterial and antiprotozoal medicine that damages bacterial DNA and interferes with enzyme systems required for the survival and growth of susceptible microorganisms. It helps control bacterial and protozoal infections affecting the gastrointestinal tract.
Metronidazole (400 mg): This works by damaging the DNA and essential cellular structures of susceptible anaerobic bacteria and protozoa. This action helps stop the growth and multiplication of infection-causing organisms and supports recovery from intestinal infections.

Pregnancy

Use FURAZOLE M Tablet 10 during pregnancy only if advised by your doctor. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy before starting this medicine.

Breastfeeding

Consult your doctor before taking FURAZOLE M Tablet 10 while breastfeeding. Your doctor will decide whether this medicine is suitable during breastfeeding.

Alcohol

Do not consume alcohol while taking FURAZOLE M Tablet 10 and for at least 48 hours after completing treatment. Combined use may cause nausea, vomiting, flushing, stomach cramps, headache, or rapid heartbeat.

Liver

Inform your doctor if you have liver disease before taking FURAZOLE M Tablet 10. Dose adjustment or careful monitoring may be required in patients with severe liver impairment.

Kidney

Use FURAZOLE M Tablet 10 with caution if you have kidney disease. Inform your doctor if you have severe kidney-related problems before starting treatment.

Use In Driving And Operating Machinery

Tyramine-rich foods: Avoid excessive intake of tyramine-rich foods such as aged cheese, smoked meat, fermented foods, and certain alcoholic beverages while taking furazolidone-containing medicines. Combined use may increase the risk of elevated blood pressure or headache in some patients.

Drug-Disease Interactions

FURAZOLE M Tablet 10 should be used with caution if you have:

Nervous system disorders (Epilepsy, Peripheral neuropathy): Metronidazole may increase the risk of dizziness, numbness, tingling sensations, or other nerve-related side effects in susceptible patients. Patients with existing neurological disorders should use this medicine cautiously and under medical supervision.
Blood-related disorders (Anaemia, Leukopenia): Patients with a history of blood cell abnormalities or bone marrow suppression should use this medicine carefully, as prolonged treatment may occasionally affect blood cell counts in susceptible patients.

Daily Dose

Over Dose

Avoid very oily, spicy, or heavy meals during gastrointestinal infections, as these may worsen stomach irritation, bloating, or loose stools.
