Doxorubin 50 Injection 1

Doxorubin 50 Injection 1 is used in the management of:

• Ovarian cancer in cases where platinum-based chemotherapy has not worked

• AIDS-related Kaposi's sarcoma in patients who have not responded to or cannot tolerate previous systemic chemotherapy

• Multiple myeloma in combination with bortezomib for patients who have received at least one prior therapy and have not previously received bortezomib.

• This medicine is meant for intravenous use only and should be administered by a healthcare professional experienced in the use of chemotherapy.

• It is important to note that this medicine is diluted before administration and is used immediately after dilution.

Doxorubin 50 Injection 1 is administered intravenously.

Doxorubin 50 Injection 1 contains doxorubicin (liposomal) (50 mg). It works in the body by:

• Inhibiting Topoisomerase II: Doxorubicin disrupts DNA replication and transcription in rapidly dividing cancer cells by blocking the enzyme topoisomerase II.

• Intercalating into DNA: Doxorubicin slips between the two strands of DNA molecules, further hindering DNA replication.

• Generating Free Radicals: Doxorubicin creates unstable molecules known as free radicals, which cause DNA damage, leading to cell death.

• Targeted Delivery: The liposomal encapsulation of doxorubicin ensures its delivery specifically to tumour tissues while minimising exposure to healthy cells. This enhances efficacy and reduces toxicity.
