Dilantin 100 Capsule is an anti-epileptic medicine used to manage epilepsy and control various types of seizures. It is also used to prevent seizures following brain surgery or severe head injuries, and to manage facial nerve pain such as trigeminal neuralgia.
It contains phenytoin, which works by stabilizing brain nerve cells to prevent excessive electrical activity that causes seizures. Swallow the capsule whole with water as prescribed by your doctor. Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly, as abrupt withdrawal can trigger rebound seizures.
Maintaining good oral hygiene is particularly important while taking this medicine, as phenytoin can cause gum swelling. Brush and floss your teeth regularly, and schedule routine dental check-ups to support gum health.
Tell your doctor before taking this medicine if you have liver disease, heart conditions, blood disorders, or a history of allergic skin reactions. Regular monitoring of blood levels, liver function, and blood counts may be required. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
