Dilantin 100 Capsule is used in the long-term management and prevention of seizures in adults and children, as well as for nerve pain relief.

Uses of Dilantin 100 Capsule are:

• Epilepsy Management: Controls and prevents various forms of epileptic seizures.
• Surgical & Trauma Prevention: Helps prevent seizures during and after brain surgery or following severe head injury.
• Trigeminal Neuralgia: Provides relief from severe facial nerve pain associated with trigeminal neuralgia.

Follow these instructions while taking Dilantin 100 Capsule:

• Swallow the capsule whole with a full glass of water.
• Do not crush, chew, or open the capsule.
• This medicine can be taken with or without food.
• Take it at evenly spaced times each day for best results.
• Never stop taking this medicine suddenly without consulting your doctor.
• Store this medicine at room temperature away from moisture and light.

Oral

Dilantin 100 Capsule contains phenytoin (100 mg), which works on the body as follows:

• Sodium Channel Stabilisation: Phenytoin acts on sodium channels in nerve cell membranes in your brain, prolonging their inactive state and preventing rapid firing of neurons.
• Electrical Activity Regulation: By controlling the movement of sodium ions across nerve cell membranes, phenytoin helps stabilise excessive electrical activity in your brain that can lead to seizures.
• Neural Firing Prevention: This medicine reduces the abnormal and excessive firing of neurons (brain cells), which is the underlying cause of seizure activity.
• Brain Excitability Reduction: Phenytoin decreases the overall excitability of brain tissue, making it less likely for seizure activity to spread from one area to another.

• Store Dilantin 100 Capsule at room temperature (below 30°C).
• Keep the medicine away from direct light and moisture.
• Store in the original container with the lid tightly closed.
• Keep out of reach of children.
• Check the expiry date and do not use after this date.

• Regular meal timing: Try to eat meals at the same times each day as irregular eating patterns may affect seizure control. This helps maintain steady levels of phenytoin in your bloodstream.
• Dental hygiene: Brush and floss your teeth thoroughly twice daily, as long-term use of phenytoin can cause gum overgrowth (gingival hyperplasia).
