Biovorin Injection 5ml

Biovorin Injection 5ml is used for the following:

• Rescuing healthy cells after high-dose methotrexate therapy

• Enhancing cancer treatment with 5-fluorouracil

• Managing colorectal cancer as part of combination therapy

• Treating megaloblastic anaemia due to folic acid deficiency

• Counteracting folic acid antagonist overdose

• Reversing toxic effects of pyrimethamine

• Treating folate deficiency when oral therapy isn't possible

• Managing side effects of trimethoprim medication

Follow these instructions while administering Biovorin Injection 5ml:

• This medicine should only be given by a qualified doctor.

• It is given by slow intravenous (IV) injection or infusion into a vein.

• The injection site should be monitored for pain, swelling or redness.

• Keep the patient well-hydrated during treatment.

• Discard any unused portion of the opened vial.

• Consult your doctor for specific administration instructions.

Biovorin Injection 5ml is administered intravenously or via an intramuscular route.

Biovorin Injection 5ml contains calcium folinate (50 mg), which works on the body as follows:

• Bypasses Enzymatic Blockade: Calcium folinate provides reduced folates that don't require the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase for activation, allowing it to bypass the blockade caused by methotrexate and similar medicines.

• Cellular Rescue: It supplies healthy cells with the necessary reduced folates needed for normal DNA synthesis and cell division, protecting them from methotrexate toxicity while not interfering with methotrexate's anti-cancer effects.

• Enhanced Anti-tumour Activity: When used with 5-fluorouracil, calcium folinate enhances the binding of 5-fluorouracil to the enzyme thymidylate synthase, improving its cancer-fighting effectiveness.

• Haematological Support: For anaemia treatment, it provides active forms of folic acid required for proper red blood cell formation and maturation in the bone marrow.

• Store Biovorin Injection 5ml in between 2°C to 8°C.

• Protect the vials from light exposure.

• Do not freeze the solution.

• Discard any unused portion after opening.

• Keep all medicines out of reach of children.

• Check the expiry date and do not use Biovorin Injection 5ml after this date.

• If you're receiving Biovorin Injection 5ml as part of cancer treatment, try to eat small, frequent meals throughout the day to help manage nausea that might occur during your treatment.

• Consider including folate-rich foods in your diet (like leafy greens, beans, and citrus fruits) to support your body's natural folate levels alongside your medicine regimen.
