Bandy Suspension is used to treat worm infections of the intestines in children and adults, including roundworm, hookworm, whipworm and threadworm. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing albendazole, which belongs to a class of medicines called broad-spectrum anthelmintics.
This medicine stops worms from taking up the sugar they need for energy, so they die and are passed out of the body. For most intestinal worms, one dose is enough, though threadworm may need a repeat dose. Longer, specialist-supervised courses are used for tissue infections such as hydatid disease and neurocysticercosis. Shake well before use and give it with food, as prescribed.
Good hygiene helps stop reinfection: wash hands before meals and after the toilet, keep fingernails short, wash bedding and clothes regularly, and drink safe water. Treating the whole household may be advised.
Do not use this medicine during pregnancy, as it may harm an unborn baby. Before taking it, tell your doctor about any liver problems, blood disorders or allergies, and about other medicines you take. Your doctor may check blood tests during longer courses. Seek medical help for severe stomach pain, fever, yellowing of the skin or eyes, unusual bruising, a sore throat or a fit (seizure). Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
