Azikem 500 Tablet is an antibiotic used in adults to treat a range of bacterial infections affecting the respiratory tract, skin, ears and eyes, as well as certain other bacterial infections.

Uses of Azikem 500 Tablet are:

• Respiratory Infections: Treats bacterial infections of the lungs, throat and sinuses.
• Skin, Ear and Eye Infections: Clears bacterial infections affecting the skin, ears and eyes.
• Typhoid Fever: Used to treat typhoid fever caused by susceptible bacteria.
• Sexually Transmitted Infections: Treats selected susceptible infections such as chlamydia; gonorrhoea requires guideline-directed combination or alternative treatment.

• Take Azikem 500 Tablet ideally on an empty stomach, either an hour before a meal or two hours afterwards.
• Swallow the tablet whole. Avoid crushing, breaking or chewing it.
• Use this medicine regularly at evenly timed intervals as advised by your doctor.
• Even if you feel better, don't stop taking Azikem 500 Tablet until your prescribed course is finished. Stopping prematurely may cause the infection to return or worsen.

The active ingredient in Azikem 500 Tablet is azithromycin (500 mg). Here's how it works:

• Binding to Bacteria: Azithromycin binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit of bacteria. The 50S subunit is a part of the protein-making machine inside bacterial cells, so when azithromycin binds to it, it interferes with protein production.
