Afmed 40 MG Tablet 28

Afmed 40 MG Tablet 28 is used for the following:

• Treatment of locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer

• Management of metastatic non-small cell lung cancer

• First-line therapy for EGFR mutation-positive lung cancers

• Targeted therapy after failed platinum-based chemotherapy

• Blocking cancer cell growth in specific lung tumours

• Management of lung cancers with epidermal growth factor receptor mutations

• Inhibition of ErbB family receptor proteins in cancer cells

Follow these instructions while taking Afmed 40 MG Tablet 28:

• Take the tablet at the same time each day.

• Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.

• Take on an empty stomach, either one hour before or two hours after eating.

• Do not crush, chew, or break the tablet.

• Maintain a regular schedule for taking this medicine.

Afmed 40 MG Tablet 28 is taken orally.

Afmed 40 MG Tablet 28 contains afatinib (40 mg), which works on the body as follows:

• ErbB receptor inhibition: Afatinib permanently blocks a family of proteins called ErbB receptors (including EGFR/HER1, HER2, and HER4) that are found on cell surfaces and help control cell growth and division.

• Irreversible binding: Unlike some similar medicines, afatinib forms permanent (covalent) bonds with these receptors, completely shutting down their activity rather than temporarily blocking them.

• Signal pathway disruption: By blocking these receptors, afatinib prevents cancer cells from receiving growth signals, effectively cutting off critical communication pathways they need to survive and multiply.

• Programmed cell death induction: Without access to growth signals, cancer cells cannot divide properly and may undergo programmed cell death (apoptosis), which can contribute to tumour shrinkage or disease control in responsive cases.

• Keep Afmed 40 MG Tablet 28 at room temperature.

• Store in the original container to protect from moisture and direct sunlight.

• Avoid storing in bathroom medicine cabinets where humidity levels change often.

• Keep out of reach of children and pets.

• Do not use this medicine after the expiry date printed on the package.

• If you experience diarrhoea while taking Afmed 40 MG Tablet 28 (which is common with this medicine), maintain proper hydration by drinking plenty of water and consider eating small, frequent meals that are low in fat and fibre.

• Consider including more antioxidant-rich foods in your diet, such as fruits and vegetables, which may support overall health during lung cancer management.
