If you care for or have children, you understandably want them to be well-nourished to live a healthy life. All facets of health, including the appropriate functioning and growing of the brain, require proper nutrition or child brain development food. A child’s brain grows rapidly throughout the first two years of life, thus good nourishment is essential, owing to which child brain development food is available. During adolescence, a child’s brain continues to develop, notably in the prefrontal cortex, also known as the “personality centre”. Memory, decision-making, and planning are all linked to this area. For brain growth, all nutrients are necessary. However, studies have shown some specific child brain development foods that help benefit their cognitive function throughout their lives.

9 brain development foods for children

Eggs for a child’s healthy brain

Eggs are loaded with proteins and are one of the most nutritious foods. They are packed with nutrients, including vitamin b12, selenium, and choline, necessary for cognitive function and brain development. The choline present in the egg is a vital nutrient for a child’s brain development. Also, some studies suggested that dietary patterns containing healthy foods such as legumes, fruits, and eggs are linked with higher IQ scores than dietary patterns in all sugary foods like candies and cookies. Hence, eggs are one of the best brain booster foods as it has choline in them and other nutrients that play an essential role in a child’s brain development.

Seafood for a child’s healthy brain

Seafood again is an excellent brain booster food as it has lots of nutrients in it, which are mainly essential for brain development including iodine, zinc, and omega-3 fats. The omega-3 fats are vital for normal brain function, whereas zinc helps produce and develop nerve cells. The role of iodine in the body is to produce thyroid hormones, an essential hormone in brain functioning and development.

Berries

Packed with phytonutrients which are the nutrients that we get from plants. Berries are loaded with anthocyanins which again is one of the best child brain development food as they provide anti-inflammatory effects, increase blood flow to the brain, and also help in the expression of certain proteins, which includes BDNF (Brain-derived neurotrophic factor).

Which is mainly involved in memory and learning. Studies have shown that children who have low berries intake and other vegetables and fruits have a poor cognitive function. Hence, berries again are one of the best brain booster foods for children.

Cocoa

Cocoa and cocoa products have a concentrated number of flavonoids, which include antioxidants such as epicatechin and catechin. This compound has brain-protective and anti-inflammatory properties. Studies showed that consumption of cocoa and cocoa products helps better the Child’s cognitive performance in tasks related to memory and verbal learning.

Oranges for a healthy brain

Oranges are also found to be one of the best foods for a child’s brain development. It is one of the famous citrus fruits loved by all kids, thanks to its tangy taste. Oranges are rich in flavonoids such as narirutin and hesperidin, which help in improving the Child’s overall cognitive health.

Studies showed that drinking or eating flavonoid-rich fruits like orange juice and oranges help increase the blood flow to the brain and increase nerve activity. Oranges are also loaded with vitamin C, which again is essential for brain health. Vitamin C is necessary for brain development and neurotransmitter production. Hence orange is also one of the best foods for a baby’s brain development.

Green leafy vegetables

I know it’s tough for you to make your Child have green leafy vegetables. But studies show that these green leafy vegetables are full of nutrients essential for a baby’s brain development. Green leafy vegetables like kale, lettuce, and spinach contain brain-protecting compounds, including carotenoids, vitamin E, K1, folate, and flavonoids. Carotenoids like zeaxanthin accumulate in the retina, which is a part of the eyes. MPOD (Macular pigment optical density) this density measures the quantity of this pigment in the eye. Some studies show that this MPOD is very important for cognitive function in children. Hence, green leafy vegetables again are the best brain booster foods for child brain development.

Nuts and seeds

Nuts and seeds contain many nutrients directly linked to cognitive function. This includes zinc, vitamin, iron, protein and bullet. Researchers have shown that including nuts and seeds in Child’s diet can help boost their intake of essential nutrients such as protein, fibre, and healthy fats. A study found that eating nuts have improved the SDMT (symbol digital modulating test) of 317 children. SDMT basically is used by scientists to measure cognitive or brain function.

Iron-rich foods

Nowadays is a pervasive problem in children across the globe. Iron deficiency can harm the brain development and the academic performance of the child. Iron deficiency can also lead to ADHD doctors’ attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Children who are seven or under 7 are highly prone to developing iron deficiency. To prevent iron deficiency, make sure to include iron-rich foods in your Child’s diet, including poultry, beans, spinach, seafood, and red meat. Ensure your Child’s diet has a mix of both heme and non-heme iron-rich foods for proper brain development.

Yoghurt

It is a good source of iodine, a nutrient essential for brain development and cognitive function. Research has shown that children who do not consume enough iodine in their diet are more prone to mental issues than those with a sufficient diet. Apart from the excellent source of iodine, yoghurt is packed with many other nutrients essential for brain growth and function, including zinc, protein, selenium, and B12. Offer your children unsweetened yoghurt topped with homemade granola, berries, pumpkin seed, and nibs.
