How Metformin + Voglibose works

  • Metformin belongs to the class of medications known as Biguanides, while Voglibose is categorised as an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor.
  • Metformin acts by decreasing the production of glucose in the liver, increases insulin sensitivity, increases peripheral uptake of glucose, and reduces the absorption of glucose from intestines.
  • Voglibose decreases the absorption of starch, dextrin, and disaccharides in the intestines by inhibiting the activity of α-glucosidase in the intestine, which reduces the postprandial levels of blood glucose.
