Fig, popularly known as anjeer in India, is a small pear-shaped flowering plant that belongs to the mulberry family. Scientifically known as Ficus Carcia, the fruit is a native of the Middle East, Asia, and Turkey and is cultivated on a commercial basis in the U.S. and Spain. In India, it is grown in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, and Coimbatore on a commercial basis. Figs are sweet with crunchy seeds present inside them.

They can be consumed in the fresh, as well as dried state and dried ones are available throughout the year. It is also known as nature’s candy as the fruit is dense in natural sugars. It is available in a variety of colours, such as purple, red, green, and golden. Fig is known by many names in India.
