Metformin + Teneligliptin

Antidiabetic

Uses of Metformin + Teneligliptin

Metformin + Teneligliptin is used to manage blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Metformin reduces the amount of sugar produced by the liver, while Teneligliptin helps the body release more insulin after meals.

This combination is commonly used for:

• Type 2 diabetes mellitus: Helps control high blood sugar levels when diet and exercise alone are not enough.
• Blood sugar management alongside other diabetes medicines: Used in combination with other treatments when a single medicine does not adequately control blood sugar.
• Long-term glycaemic control: Supports sustained control of blood sugar levels to help reduce the risk of diabetes-related complications.

Side effects of Metformin + Teneligliptin

  • Hypoglycemia
  • Constipation
  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Bloating
  • Abdominal discomfort
  • Nausea

How Metformin + Teneligliptin works

Metformin + Teneligliptin works through two different actions that together help control blood sugar levels.

Metformin belongs to a class of medicines called biguanides. It works by reducing the amount of glucose produced by the liver and improving the body's sensitivity to insulin, helping muscles use glucose more effectively.

Teneligliptin belongs to a class of medicines called DPP-4 inhibitors. It works by blocking an enzyme called dipeptidyl peptidase-4, which normally breaks down hormones that stimulate insulin release after meals. By blocking this enzyme, Teneligliptin increases insulin release and decreases glucagon secretion, thereby reducing glucose production by the liver, particularly after eating.

Together, Metformin and Teneligliptin work through complementary pathways to lower blood sugar more effectively than either medicine alone.
