Dosage Forms Available

• Tramadol can be taken orally (tablet, capsule) or administered intramuscularly or intravenously (injection).

Age and Dose Restrictions

• It is intended for use by adults and children over 12 years of age. 

Contraindications

• It is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Tramadol. It is also contraindicated in patients having serotonin syndrome, epilepsy, and sleep disorders. 

Other Medications To Avoid With This Medicine

• Avoid taking anticonvulsants (carbamazepine), painkillers (pentazocine), anti-nauseatic medications (ondansetron), cough medications (codeine), sleeping pills (benzodiazepines), antidepressants (fluoxetine), and anticoagulants (warfarin). These medications may alter the safety and effectiveness of Tramadol.

Overdose and Missed Dose

• Overdose can cause very small pupils, sickness, fall in blood pressure, fast heartbeat, collapse, unconsciousness, fits and breathing difficulties or shallow breathing. These symptoms need to be managed as an emergency in a hospital setting. Therefore, strict adherence to the prescribed dose is essential.
• If you miss a dose of Tramadol, take it as soon as you remember. But, if the next dose is near, skip the missed dose and resume the regular dosing regime.

Use In Driving And Operating Machinery

• Most of the side effects gets resolved on its own or after discontinuation of this medication. If side effects worsen or persist, consult your doctor for a possible treatment plan adjustment.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

• It is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Caution In Other Conditions

• Caution is advised in older adults and patients having difficulty breathing, head injury or brain disease, consciousness disorders, cold sweat, state of shock, and depression.

Special Dietary & Lifestyle Recommendation

• Avoid oily and spicy foods while taking this medication.
• Keep yourself hydrated. Take small, frequent sips of water if you feel sick.
• Avoid alcohol consumption while on Tramadol, as it may increase the risk of side effects.
• Take Tramadol only for the prescribed duration.
• It should not be combined with medications that cause sedation or make a person fall asleep.
