Dosage Forms Available

Age and Dose Restrictions

• This combination is not recommended for children below 18 years.

Contraindications

• Hydrochlorothiazide + Olmesartan Medoxomil is contraindicated in patients with severe kidney or liver disease, anuria (inability to produce urine), low blood sodium or potassium levels, or allergy to sulfonamide-derived medications. 

Other Medications to Avoid

• Avoid taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) (ibuprofen), lithium, potassium supplements, corticosteroids, antifungals (ketoconazole), and other blood pressure medications (enalapril or losartan). These can reduce the effectiveness of the medication or increase the risk of kidney damage, low blood pressure, or high potassium levels.

Overdose and Missed Dose

• An overdose may cause severe dizziness, low blood pressure, dehydration, or irregular heartbeat. Seek immediate medical attention if you suspect an overdose. 
• If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with the regular schedule. Do not double the dose to compensate for a missed one.

Management of Side Effects

• If dizziness occurs, get up slowly from a sitting or lying position to prevent falls.
  To manage dehydration, increase fluid intake, but consult your doctor before making any changes, as too much fluid can affect blood pressure control.
• If muscle cramps or weakness occur due to low potassium levels, consuming potassium-rich foods such as bananas, oranges, or spinach may help. However, check with your doctor before taking potassium supplements.

Use in Driving and Operating Machinery

• This combination may cause dizziness or lightheadedness, especially when starting treatment. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medication affects you.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

• This medication should not be used during pregnancy, as it can harm the fetus and lead to birth defects. Breastfeeding mothers should consult a doctor before use, as hydrochlorothiazide can pass into breast milk and affect milk production.

Caution in Other Conditions

• Patients with kidney disease, liver disease, diabetes, dehydration, gout, or electrolyte imbalances should take this medication under strict medical supervision. It can alter sodium, potassium, and fluid levels in the body, requiring careful monitoring.

Special Dietary and Lifestyle Recommendations

• Limit salt intake, as high sodium consumption can reduce the effectiveness of the medication.
• Stay hydrated, but avoid excessive fluid intake, which can affect blood pressure regulation.
• Increase intake of potassium-rich foods (if advised by your doctor), such as bananas, sweet potatoes, and beans, to counteract potassium loss from hydrochlorothiazide.
