Age and Dose Restrictions

• This medicine is meant for adult men, particularly tailored for those experiencing symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

Contraindications

• Tamsulosin + Tolterodine is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to either tamsulosin, tolterodine, or any inactive ingredients in the formulation.

• It is also contraindicated in individuals with severe renal impairment or severe hepatic impairment.

• Those with a history of urinary retention or gastric retention should avoid this medicine.

• It is not suitable for patients with uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma.

Other Medications to Avoid

• This medicine can interact with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) (e.g., diclofenac), anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin), alpha-1 adrenergic receptor antagonists (e.g., prazosin, terazosin, doxazosin), antifungals (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole), antibiotics (e.g., erythromycin, clarithromycin), HIV medications (e.g., indinavir, nelfinavir, ritonavir), prokinetic agents (e.g., metoclopramide, cisapride), antiarrhythmics (e.g., amiodarone, sotalol, quinidine, procainamide), antimuscarinic agents (e.g., atropine, scopolamine), and neurotransmitter inhibitors (e.g., donepezil).

Overdose and Missed Dose

• Taking more than the prescribed dose may worsen typical side effects such as dizziness, headache, urinary retention, dry mouth, blurred vision, or a rapid heartbeat. If you suspect an overdose, consult your doctor immediately.

• If you miss a dose of Tamsulosin + Tolterodine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one.

Management of Side Effects

Most side effects are temporary and generally harmless and resolve when discontinuing this medicine. However, if you experience any severe side effects or worsening of any symptoms, please consult your doctor.

• For dry mouth, sipping water regularly or using sugar-free candies may help stimulate saliva production.

• If experiencing constipation, increasing the intake of fibrous foods like fruits and vegetables and drinking plenty of water can aid digestion.

• For patients experiencing dizziness, it is advisable to rise slowly from sitting or lying positions to prevent falls.

Use in Driving and Operating Machinery

• This medication may affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. Do not engage in these activities if you feel dizzy or sleepy after taking this medication.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

• Tamsulosin + Tolterodine is not recommended to use during pregnancy and lactation since it is only indicated for men.

Caution in Other Conditions

• Special caution should be used when administering this medication in patients with mild to moderate renal or hepatic impairment.

• Those with a predisposition to orthostatic hypotension (sudden lowering of blood pressure upon standing) should also exercise caution while taking this medicine.

Special Dietary and Lifestyle Recommendations

• Maintain a balanced diet rich in vegetables, fruits, and whole grains to help manage BPH symptoms. Avoiding caffeine and alcohol can also help control urinary symptoms.

• Regular physical activity can support overall prostate health and help manage weight, reducing pressure on the bladder.

• It is important to drink sufficient water throughout the day to help reduce bladder irritation but avoid drinking large amounts of fluid at once or late in the evening.

• Practising stress-reducing techniques such as meditation could indirectly help manage BPH symptoms by reducing nervous system activity that may worsen symptoms.
