Dosage Forms Available

• Ambroxol + Doxycycline can be taken orally as tablets.

Age and Dose Restrictions

• This medicine is meant for adults and children above 12 years of age.

Contraindications

• This medicine is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to either of the active ingredients or any of the excipients. It should not be used by patients with severe hepatic impairment and myasthenia gravis.

Other Medications to Avoid

• This combination may interact with antacids (e.g., tums), iron supplements, and medications containing aluminium, calcium, or magnesium (e.g., caltrate, and fosamax); anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin); oral contraceptives (e.g., loestrin and yasmin); penicillin antibiotics (e.g., amoxicillin, ampicillin); barbiturates (e.g., amobarbital), anticonvulsants (e.g., carbamazepine, phenytoin).

Overdose and Missed Dose

• In case of an overdose, patients may experience an exacerbation of the common side effects. Treatment is generally symptomatic and supportive. In severe cases, hospitalization may be necessary. Patients should seek immediate medical attention if they suspect an overdose.

• If you forget to take this medicine, take it as soon as you remember. But if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Management of Side Effects

Most side effects are temporary and generally harmless and resolve when discontinuing this medicine. However, if you experience any severe side effects or worsening of any of the symptoms, please consult your doctor.

• Drinking a glass of water after taking the tablet can help reduce gastrointestinal side effects like nausea and vomiting.

• Resting or sitting in a quiet room may help manage headaches.

Use in Driving and Operating Machinery

• This medicine may affect your ability to drive or operate heavy machinery. Avoid these activities if you feel dizzy, tired, or if your vision is blurred after taking this medicine.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

• This medicine should be avoided during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, as it can cause permanent tooth discoloration and inhibit bone growth in the developing foetus.

• It is also excreted in breast milk and may cause similar effects in nursing infants. Therefore, the medication should be used during pregnancy and lactation after consulting with you doctor on the benefits and risks involved.

Caution in Other Conditions

• Patients with severe liver or kidney conditions should exercise caution when taking this medicine. It should also be used with caution in patients with myasthenia gravis (a neuromuscular disorder causing weakness in skeletal muscles) and history of gastrointestinal disorders such as ulcerative colitis or Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhoea.
