Doxofylline + Terbutaline

Uses of Doxofylline + Terbutaline

Doxofylline + Terbutaline relieves breathing difficulties caused by airway narrowing, and is primarily used to manage asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
This combination is commonly used for:
• Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD): Helps widen the airways to ease breathlessness and wheezing associated with chronic bronchitis and emphysema.
• Bronchial asthma: Relieves wheezing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath during asthma episodes.
• Airway narrowing due to bronchospasm: Eases sudden tightening of the airway muscles that restricts airflow.
• Other obstructive lung conditions: Occasionally used for additional respiratory conditions involving airway narrowing, as advised by a doctor.

Side effects of Doxofylline + Terbutaline

  • Headache

  • Nausea

  • Tremors

  • Restlessness

  • Dizziness

How Doxofylline + Terbutaline works

Doxofylline + Terbutaline works through two separate mechanisms that together relax and widen the airways.
Doxofylline blocks enzymes called phosphodiesterases. This increases levels of a substance called cyclic AMP (cAMP), which relaxes the muscles surrounding the airways and reduces constriction, making breathing easier.
Terbutaline stimulates beta-2 receptors located in the airway muscles. This further increases cAMP production, relaxing and widening the airways. It also helps prevent certain cells from releasing substances that would otherwise cause the airways to narrow.
Together, both medicines improve airflow and relieve breathlessness more effectively than either medicine alone.
