Contraindications

Other Medications to Avoid

• This combination may interact with disulfiram (used in alcohol dependency), anticoagulants (like warfarin), antimanic agents (like lithium), anticonvulsants (like phenytoin and phenobarbital) and H2 blockers (like cimetidine).

Overdose and Missed Dose

• An overdose of this combination might lead to severe nausea, vomiting, unsteady movements (ataxia), seizures and peripheral neuropathy. If an overdose is suspected, consult a doctor immediately.

• If a dose of this combination is missed, it should be taken as soon as remembered. However, if it is close to the time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with the usual dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Management of Side Effects

Most side effects of are temporary and generally harmless. They tend to resolve upon discontinuation of this combination. However, if you experience any severe side effects or worsening of symptoms, please consult your doctor.

• To manage gastrointestinal side effects like nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea, try taking the medicine with food.

Use in Driving and Operating Machinery

• Diloxanide + Metronidazole may cause dizziness or weakness. If you experience such symptoms, avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you feel well enough to do so safely.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

• Caution is advised when using Diloxanide + Metronidazole during pregnancy and lactation. It is important to consult your doctor for guidance based on your specific health conditions and needs during these sensitive periods.

Caution in Other Conditions

• Patients with renal (kidney) impairment should use this combination with caution. Monitoring of organ function may be necessary when under treatment with this medication.

• Individuals with pre-existing blood disorders should be closely monitored as the medication can affect blood cell counts.

Special Dietary and Lifestyle Recommendations

• Practise good hygiene to help prevent the spread of infections such as amoebiasis, particularly by washing your hands before eating and after using the toilet.
• Do not consume alcohol, as drinking alcohol while taking metronidazole may cause an adverse reaction.
