Contraindications

• Alfuzosin is contraindicated in patients with known allergies to alfuzosin or any of its constituents. It is also contraindicated in patients with moderate to severe liver impairment, severe kidney impairment, and those taking other alpha blockers or medications for erectile dysfunction.

Other Medications to Avoid

• Alfuzosin may interact with other alpha blockers (e..g, doxazosin, tamsulosin), medications for erectile dysfunction (e..g, sildenafil, tadalafil), certain antifungals (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole), specific antibiotics (clarithromycin, telithromycin), HIV protease inhibitors (e.g., ritonavir), and antidepressants (e.g., nefazodone).

Overdose and Missed Dose

• An overdose of Alfuzosin may lead to severe symptoms like extreme dizziness, fainting, and low blood pressure. Immediate medical attention should be sought in case of overdose.

• If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as you remember. However, skip the missed dose if it is nearly time for your next scheduled dose. Do not double up the dose to make up for the missed one.

Management of Side Effects

Most side effects are temporary and usually resolve when discontinuing this medicine. However, if you experience any severe side effects or worsening symptoms, please consult your doctor.

• Alfuzosin is recommended for adult men and therefore it's not applicable for pregnant or lactating women.

Caution in Other Conditions

• Patients with liver or heart problems should take Alfuzosin with caution. Caution should also be exercised if you are scheduled for cataract or glaucoma surgery. In these situations, your doctor may recommend a different treatment plan or a more frequent monitoring routine.

Special Dietary and Lifestyle Recommendations

• Limiting caffeine and alcohol intake can help reduce urinary symptoms associated with BPH.

• Practice "double voiding" – urinate as much as possible, relax for a moment, then urinate again – to help empty the bladder completely.
