Trimetazidine

Antianginal

Uses of Trimetazidine

  • Trimetazidine is used to treat angina (chest pain) and improve heart function in patients with heart disease. It works by increasing the efficiency of the heart muscle, helping it use oxygen more effectively, and reducing the frequency of angina attacks. Trimetazidine is also sometimes used in the management of conditions like dizziness and tinnitus caused by poor blood circulation.

Side effects of Trimetazidine

  • Headache
  • Weakness
  • Abdominal pain

How Trimetazidine works

  • Trimetazidine is an antianginal medication.
  • Trimetazidine is a partial fatty acid oxidation inhibitor that helps the heart use glucose for energy instead of fatty acids by blocking a specific enzyme.
  • It is beneficial because when the heart is not getting enough oxygen, using glucose requires less oxygen than the usual process involving fatty acids.
  • By promoting glucose use, Trimetazidine ensures the heart has enough energy even during reduced oxygen supply, supporting proper energy metabolism in these conditions.
