• Ramipril is available in oral dosage forms, including tablets and capsules.

Age and Dose Restrictions

• Ramipril is generally not recommended for children unless prescribed by a doctor. The dose varies based on the condition being treated, and adjustments may be needed for elderly patients and those with kidney impairment.

Contraindications

• Ramipril should not be used by individuals with a known allergy to ACE inhibitors, a history of angioedema, or severe kidney disease. It is also contraindicated in patients taking aliskiren for diabetes and during pregnancy.

Other Medications to Avoid

• Avoid using Ramipril with potassium-sparing diuretics, lithium, certain diabetes medications (vildagliptin, insulin and sulfonylurea derivatives) and other blood pressure-lowering medications like ARBs (losartan, valsartan). These interactions may reduce the effectiveness of Ramipril or increase the risk of side effects.

Overdose and Missed Dose

• An overdose of Ramipril can cause severe hypotension (low blood pressure) and kidney impairment. Seek immediate medical help if an overdose is suspected. 
• If a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered, but if it is close to the next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and continue with the regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose.

Management of Side Effects

• If dizziness occurs, getting up slowly from a sitting or lying position may help. Dry cough, a common side effect, can be persistent; consult a doctor if it becomes bothersome. Keeping well-hydrated and avoiding high-potassium foods can help manage side effects like hyperkalemia.

Use in Driving and Operating Machinery

• Ramipril may cause dizziness or lightheadedness, especially when starting the medication. It is advised to avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until its effects are known.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

• Ramipril is not recommended during pregnancy as it may harm the developing baby. It should also be avoided during breastfeeding unless prescribed by a doctor.

Caution in Other Conditions

• Caution is advised in patients with kidney or liver disease, diabetes, electrolyte imbalances, and a history of angioedema. Patients undergoing dialysis should consult a doctor before taking Ramipril.

Special Dietary and Lifestyle Recommendations

• Limit salt intake and avoid high-potassium foods such as bananas, oranges, and spinach to prevent potassium buildup. 
• Maintain a healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Engage in regular physical activity and monitor blood pressure regularly.
