Melitracen

Uses of Melitracen

  • Melitracen is a tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) used to treat depression and anxiety disorders. It helps restore emotional balance by acting on chemical messengers in the brain.
  • Melitracen is commonly used for:

    1. Depression: Helps relieve symptoms associated with depressive disorders.

    2. Anxiety disorders: Helps reduce symptoms of anxiety and tension.

    3. Mixed anxiety and depression: Often prescribed when both depressive and anxiety symptoms are present together, particularly in combination products.

Side effects of Melitracen

  • Drowsiness

  • Dry mouth

  • Constipation

  • Blurred vision

  • Increased appetite

  • Weight gain

How Melitracen works

  • Melitracen works by increasing the levels of two key chemical messengers in the brain serotonin and norepinephrine.
  • These chemicals play an important role in regulating mood, emotions, and the body's response to stress. In people with depression or anxiety, their levels may be lower than normal or not working as effectively as they should.
  • Melitracen reduces the reabsorption (reuptake) of serotonin and norepinephrine back into nerve cells, allowing them to remain active in the brain for longer. This helps stabilise mood, ease anxiety, and improve overall emotional well-being over time.
