How Ketoconazole works
Ketoconazole works by damaging the outer membrane of fungal cells.
It blocks an enzyme fungi need to produce ergosterol, a substance essential for building and maintaining a healthy fungal cell membrane.
Without enough ergosterol, the fungal cell membrane becomes weak and leaky, which stops the fungus from growing and eventually causes it to die. This action helps clear fungal infections of the skin, scalp, and other affected areas.
