Expert Advice

Dosage Forms Available

  • This combination is generally available as a topical cream.
  • The dosage form and amount of each ingredient may vary between products.
  • Apply it only to the skin. Do not use it in the eyes, mouth, nose or vagina.

Age and Dose Restrictions

  • Apply it only to the area, in the amount and for the duration prescribed by your doctor.
  • Do not use it for a prolonged period or over a large area of skin without medical advice.
  • Children may absorb a larger amount of topical corticosteroid through their skin. Use it in children only under medical advice and for a short duration.
  • Do not use it under a nappy because the nappy may act like a covered dressing and increase medicine absorption.

Contraindications

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to beclomethasone, clotrimazole, gentamicin or any other ingredient in the product.
  • Do not apply it to acne, rosacea or dermatitis around the mouth.
  • Do not use it for chickenpox, herpes or another viral skin infection.
  • Do not use it for skin tuberculosis, skin conditions associated with syphilis or another untreated infection.
  • Do not apply it to open wounds, severely damaged skin or the area around the eyes.
  • Use it inside the ear only when specifically prescribed for that purpose and when the eardrum is intact.

Other Medicines to Avoid With This Medicine

  • Clinically significant interactions with other medicines are unlikely when this medicine is used correctly on a small area of skin.
  • Consult your doctor before applying another corticosteroid, antifungal, antibiotic, cosmetic or herbal cream to the same area.
  • Applying it to a large area, damaged skin or under a covered dressing may increase medicine absorption into the body.
  • Tell your doctor about all medicines and skin products you use.

Overdose and Missed Dose

  • Using excessive amounts, applying it over a large area or using it for a prolonged period may thin the skin and affect the body’s natural corticosteroid hormone balance.
  • Prolonged inappropriate use may make fungi or bacteria less responsive to treatment and may worsen the infection.
  • If you accidentally swallow the medicine, contact a doctor or the nearest hospital immediately.
  • If you miss an application, apply a thin layer when you remember. Skip it if the next application is due soon.
  • Do not apply twice the amount.

Management of Side Effects

  • Mild, short-lasting stinging may occur after application. Wash the medicine off and contact your doctor if the burning is severe or persistent.
  • Avoid scratching or rubbing the affected area.
  • Do not apply a moisturiser or another cream to the same area without medical advice.
  • Tell your doctor if the skin becomes thin or discoloured, stretch marks develop, or the infection worsens.
  • Contact your doctor before continuing treatment if the rash spreads or you develop pus, worsening pain or swelling.

Driving and Operating Machinery

  • This topical medicine is not expected to affect your ability to drive or operate heavy machinery.

Use in Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

  • Use this medicine during pregnancy only when your doctor considers it necessary.
  • Do not use it in large amounts, over a large area or for a prolonged period during pregnancy.
  • Do not apply it to the breast or nipple while breastfeeding unless advised by your doctor.
  • If your doctor advises applying it to the breast, wash the area thoroughly before feeding the baby.

Caution in Other Conditions

  • Tell your doctor if your immune system is weakened because the corticosteroid may hide signs of infection.
  • If you have diabetes, use it over large areas or for a prolonged period only under medical supervision.
  • Absorption may increase when it is applied to the face, armpits, groin or skin folds.
  • Using it under a covered dressing may increase the amount of medicine absorbed into the body.
  • Prolonged use may affect the glands that produce the body’s natural corticosteroid hormones.

Special Dietary and Lifestyle Recommendations

  • Clean and dry the affected area thoroughly before applying the medicine.
  • Wash your hands before and after application unless your hands are being treated.
  • Avoid scratching the affected area.
  • Wear clean, loose-fitting clothing over the infected area.
  • Do not share towels, clothing or other personal items.
  • Do not cover the treated area with a bandage, plastic covering or nappy unless advised by your doctor.
