Contraindications

• Azithromycin + Cefixime is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to azithromycin, cefixime, or any component of the formulations. It is also contraindicated in patients with carnitine deficiency or inborn errors of carnitine metabolism.

Other Medications to Avoid

• This combination may interact with antacids (such as aluminium hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide), anticoagulants (like dabigatran and warfarin), cardiac glycosides (including oleandrin and digoxin), and protease inhibitors (such as ritonavir and nelfinavir).

Overdose and Missed Dose

• Taking more than the prescribed dose of Azithromycin + Cefixime may cause severe nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and abdominal pain. If you suspect an overdose, seek medical attention immediately.
• If you miss a dose of Azithromycin + Cefixime, take it as soon as you remember. If it is nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one. Completing the full prescribed course is important to prevent the infection returning or becoming resistant to antibiotics.

Management of Side Effects

Most side effects are temporary and generally harmless and resolve when discontinuing this medicine. However, if you experience any severe side effects or worsening symptoms, please consult your doctor.

• To manage nausea or upset stomach related to this medication, it may help to take your doses with food.
• In case of diarrhoea, ensure adequate hydration by drinking plenty of water.

Use in Driving and Operating Machinery

• Azithromycin + Cefixime may cause dizziness or drowsiness in some individuals. If you experience these symptoms after taking this medicine, it is advisable to avoid driving or operating heavy machinery.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

• Azithromycin + Cefixime falls into pregnancy category B. It should be used during pregnancy only if needed. Both components are excreted in breast milk; hence, breastfeeding mothers should use this medication only under the advice of a doctor.

Caution in Other Conditions

• Patients with liver or kidney impairment should exercise caution when using Azithromycin + Cefixime due to the potential for altered medicine metabolism and excretion, which might require dose adjustments. Care should also be taken in patients with a history of QT prolongation or other heart-related conditions.
