Nitrendipine

Uses of Nitrendipine

Nitrendipine is a calcium channel blocker used to manage high blood pressure (hypertension) and chronic stable angina.

Nitrendipine is commonly used for:

• Hypertension: Lowers high blood pressure by relaxing and widening blood vessels, reducing strain on the heart.
• Angina (chronic stable chest pain): Helps prevent chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart muscle.
• Prevention of hypertension-related complications: Helps reduce the long-term risk of stroke, heart attack, and kidney damage by controlling blood pressure.

Side effects of Nitrendipine

  • Dizziness

  • Flushing

  • Headache

  • Fatigue

  • Swelling in the ankles or feet

How Nitrendipine works

Nitrendipine works by relaxing the muscles in the walls of blood vessels, which widens them and lowers blood pressure.

Nitrendipine is a calcium channel blocker. It blocks calcium from entering the smooth muscle cells of blood vessels. Since calcium is needed for these muscles to contract, blocking it causes the vessels to relax and widen (vasodilation).

This widening reduces the resistance to blood flow, lowering blood pressure and improving blood flow to the heart muscle. This eases the strain on the heart and helps relieve angina symptoms.
